How to Pick the Right Lipstick

Do you ever wonder why the same lipstick looks different on someone else than it does on you?

It all depends on the undertones of your skin, so while one lipstick color may make your girlfriend look great, it may end up leaving you looking sallow and washed out.

Choosing the right lipstick does not have to be hard, and you should start by determining what skin tone yours is. There are three basic options here: fair skin tone, medium skin tone, and dark skin tone.

You should select a lip color that is going to best match with your skin tone as this will result in the nicest overall effect.

Fair Skin Tone

With a fair skin tone you really have to be careful which colors you are putting on the face.

When it comes to lip color, you want to avoid all colors with yellow and orange undertones, as these will be too harsh on the face.

Instead you want to stick with deep plum reds and berry shades, as well as pinks such as light shiny pinks with blue undertones which work very well on this skin tone.

Medium Skin Tone

Medium skin tones are the easiest to work with and most lipstick colors will go well here.

Browns and warm reds will soften and look warm on medium skin, while rich caramel shades can be very flattering as well.

If you want a pink lipstick and have a medium skin tone, stick to rich and deep pinks, as well as pinks with brown undertones which will enhance the color of your skin and bring out the natural pink flush in your face.

Dark Skin Tone

If you have darker skin, you are going to want to stick to colors that are deeper and richer.

Go for red colors with a blue undertone, and mahogany tones, deep plums, and wine reds are all worth trying as well.

Pinks like medium and soft sheer pinks work well on dark skin as well, and almost all berry tones will work well.

With these helpful and easy to follow tips you are well on your way to finding the perfect lipstick shade for you.
