Rouge, blush, whatever you want to call it, it is crucial that you know how to apply it properly, otherwise you will end up looking like a clown.

Nothing brings a dull, drowsy face to life faster than a quick sweep of blush, and here is how you apply it properly.

Applying Blush

The first thing you need to do is select a color of blush to use. Use nature as your guide here.

To figure out which color would look most natural on you, take a jog around the block or even just your house, and then see what color your cheeks are in the mirror.

Now that you have the color and are ready to go, you want to choose which type of blush is going to be right for you. That's right, there are different types.

If you have oily skin the powder blushes will work best for you, whereas you would not want to use the powder on a drier face because it will cause flaking and possibly even scaliness.

If you do have dry skin you will want to stick to the cream blushes, as these will work best on your skin type.

Blush should always be the second last makeup step in your routine, before powder which should be the final step used to finish off your face.

The best trick for applying blush? Use a big blush brush, such as the MAC blush brush 116.

Blush can be your new secret weapon now that you know how to apply it properly, and even if you leave the house without any other makeup, blush will give your face a punch of life and leave it glowing and radiant.
